All traffic lights in Lviv have backup power

The entire traffic light network in Lviv, which includes 178 objects (approximately 2,5 thousand traffic lights), is equipped with backup power. Lviv has become the first city in Ukraine to achieve this level of preparedness. Thanks to 167 uninterruptible power supply blocks, the traffic lights can operate independently for 24 to 48 hours.

The entire traffic light network in Lviv, consisting of 178 objects (approximately 2,5 thousand traffic lights), is equipped with backup power, according to Львівавтодор (Lviv Automobile Transport). Lviv has become the first city in Ukraine to achieve this level of preparedness.

In 2022 year, the first critical traffic light objects were powered by generators provided by local businesses. Simultaneously, experts were searching for other solutions. Currently, 178 objects can operate independently thanks to the installation of 167 uninterruptible power supply blocks.

Following 24-hour testing without centralized power supply, over one hundred objects are capable of operating for 48 hours or more, while the rest can operate for 24 hours. In the municipal enterprise "Lvivavtorodor," the installation of individual power blocks on each object is continuing, in order to distribute the load and increase the operating time.

It should be noted that this was the first large-scale testing of traffic lights in Lviv. The test, which lasted for one and a half days, showed a high level of autonomy for the system: most objects operated continuously for approximately 24 hours.
