The Association of Ukrainians in Poland criticized the decision of the Lviv regional council to declare the year 2027 as the year of General Roman Shukhevych, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, and Oleh Olzhych.

In the statement, addressed to the head of the Lviv regional council, Yuriy Holod, and the regional council deputies October 23, the organization expressed surprise at the decision adopted on October 20 in 2026. The Association of Ukrainians in Poland emphasized that, in the context of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, it is particularly important to maintain Polish-Ukrainian solidarity and to be sensitive to the concerns of neighbors regarding the difficult aspects of their shared history.

Representatives of the organization urged the Ukrainian authorities not to make decisions that exacerbate relations between Poland and Ukraine, as this undermines trust, weakens cooperation and support, and is detrimental to Ukraine. In their opinion, such decisions could also be used by forces that advocate for ending support for the Ukrainian resistance.

The Association of Ukrainians in Poland stated that provoking neighbors with contentious issues related to Ukrainian historical memory and its heroes distracts from current events, including the daily Russian bombings of Ukraine and their victims. The organization believes that the process of reconciliation requires great sensitivity and consideration from both sides, treating it as a priority.
