In the Lviv region, the fare card will be used only once in buses starting from October 12

Starting October 12, on suburban and intercity routes in Lviv region, passengers will need to present a bank card, NFC device, or a discounted card only once – upon entering the bus. The Check-in/Check-out system is temporarily being replaced due to unstable mobile communication caused by the operation of electronic countermeasures; these changes will remain in effect until the end of the martial law. Payment with cash remains unchanged.

Starting from October 12, on suburban and intercity routes in Lviv region, a bank card, an NFC-enabled device, or a discounted card will need to be presented to the validator only once – upon entering the bus. Presenting the card again upon exiting will be canceled. This was announced by the press service of the Lviv regional military administration.

The system of Check-in/Check-out, where passengers used to swipe their card twice – once at the beginning and once at the end of the journey – was still in effect in the region. This system determined the distance traveled and calculated the fare. Due to the ongoing operation of electronic warfare systems and the resulting instability of mobile communication, the online payment system is being switched to a single swipe. These changes will remain in effect until the end of the martial law.

The director of the Department of Road Infrastructure of the Lviv Regional State Administration, Orest Shulikovsky, explained that a green checkmark on the validator screen indicates successful payment or registration of a discounted trip. If a red cross appears, the operation was not completed, and the reason for the failure is indicated on the screen – for example, it may be due to insufficient funds or a lack of connection to the network.

The cash payment procedure remains unchanged: the passenger informs the driver of the final stop, pays for the ride, and must receive a ticket from the validator. From 12 to October 16, a transitional period will be in effect for bus fares in Lviv region.
