Lviv: New sewage pipeline for Vynnyky ready at 94%
Lviv Vodokanal is completing the construction of a new sewage pipeline that will connect the pumping station in the Vinnykiv community with the wastewater treatment facilities in Lviv. More than 12 km of pipes have been laid – this is 94% of the total length of the network; the company plans to complete the work by mid-December. The new network will replace the outdated asbestos-cement pipes, which have caused numerous problems for decades.
The municipal enterprise "Lvivvodokan" is completing the construction of a new sewage pipeline that will connect the pumping station in the Vinnykiv community with the wastewater treatment facilities in Lviv. According to the city council, more than 12 kilometers of pipelines have already been laid – this is 94% of the total length of the network.
The new network will replace the old asbestos-cement pipes, which had been in use for decades and were constantly causing problems due to significant wear and tear. According to the municipal enterprise, the upgrade will reduce the risk of emergencies, improve the reliability of the water drainage system, and create the necessary capacity for further development in Vynnyky.
The project is being implemented entirely with the company's own funds: all work is being carried out by the company's own sanitation department, without the involvement of external contractors, which has allowed for significant savings in the budget.
Construction of the facility began before the full-scale war, but initially due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and later due to the Russian invasion, the pace of work slowed significantly; the full process was only resumed in 2024 year. The project, in total, involves two parallel sections of the main sewage network, with a total length of 13,6 km and a diameter of 400 mm. The plan is to complete the entire project by mid-December: there are still about 800 meters of pipe to lay, as well as four sewage wells and two chambers to construct.
